Just a regular Monday

It’s been a few days since I have written and I’ve been having a bit of a writer’s block on topics to write about. The other day I posted an article about a regular rainy day and had several people indicate they enjoyed reading things like that, so I thought I’d just write about what’s been going on lately. Nothing fancy and nothing profound; just a regular Monday.

As for the kids, school is kicking along just fine. My oldest is focused and doing great and my youngest..well he is doing great, but focused might not be the word, hah. My other two (furry) kids, Roscoe and Buffy, are also doing great. Their biggest problem in life right now is that their daddy went out of town yesterday for work. I always take them with me when I have to drop him off at the airport so they can at least see that I didn’t do something to him. Because he and I are fortunate enough to spend every day being together – it’s a little more noticeable to them when he isn’t here. So basically they just get even more cookies that normal and I promise them each day that he will come back, haha.

As for me, well…things have been okay. It’s still weird to be standing in the shower and for a fleeting moment I think, “I wonder what Dad is up to and if he is enjoying this weather.” I have also been having a little trouble with it being football season. The reason is because Dad loved football and during this time of year football was pretty much the only thing he had on the TV. He also wouldn’t be watching just one game; he flip between as many games as there were on and keep up with all of them at the same time. I could always tell how content and happy he seemed with football on and the weather trying to cool down. Of all the times in a year, this time of the year is the one I have the fondest memories of and now it’s just not them same.

On the flip side, despite the still raw pain of him not being here, this time of year tends to lift my spirits some. It used to be more because it was the beginning of cool weather, football season and then the holidays. Now, of course, I am not looking forward to the holidays—but there is something about the weather cooling down that just makes me feel happier. Now, to be clear cooler weather here in Mississippi means that at 11:30 AM it’s 79 degrees vs 100 degrees and that’s a win! It also means that cooler weather is on it’s way, albeit slowly.

I think it must be because I really enjoy being outside and the cooler the weather the more I am able to do that without being drenched in sweat and eaten by mosquitos. I love to be by water and out in the woods when it’s cool, but even just sitting out back at my house with a small fenced-in yard watching my dogs play feels a little bit like Heaven.

For me this regular Monday has consisted of going to pick up a Kroger click-list (groceries), unload and put them up, get a shower and begin writing. Compared to the rush and stress of my previous job, it’s absolutely wonderful. Days like today remind me that I am right where I wanted to be in terms of not having to live every weekday full of stress and feeling like I wasn’t good enough for my job anymore. I still have to fight off some feelings of “what the hell am I actually doing,” and remind myself that even slow progress is progress towards my goal. My goal of being able to write and create art and actually make a little money. I realize that that is dependent on the effort I put in and so my goal as we roll into this fall season is to step up my motivation and focus on making noticeable progress that gives me a sense of purpose.

I hope the rest of you are enjoying your Monday (as much as a Monday can be enjoyable) and wherever you are I hope you are able to get outside and touch the grass a little. Listen to the birds and feel the wind. It may just be a regular Monday, but I feel blessed to be alive today and I am going to revel in that.
